| What a thrill this assignment was for me. Little did I know when I for the first time watched the breed as a teenager in 1978 at Windsor that I one day would have the honour of judging the Club Show. Even though I gave up breeding them about a decade ago my love for this incredible breed remains, and I have a deep respect for all of you that keep up the good work. The Clumber spaniel is challenging to breed. The total entry of almost 70 dogs was far more than I could have hoped for, and I would like to thank you all for that. The atmosphere around the ring was lovely and the sun was shining. The day could not have been better. I was extremely impressed with how well the breed has been adapted to the adjusted breed standard. I have never judged them anywhere in the world where overall the eyes have been so good and where movement have been so sound. I salute you for that. Of course, all this did not come without a cost, the quality in fronts especially needs to be focused on going forward. There were also a few incorrect bites, a fault that also needs to be addressed for the future. Temperaments were very good. Thank you all for bringing your dogs and to the club for inviting me.
